Description: 1 graduate credit This course is an introduction to digital storytelling and suitable for educators of any technology experience level. Digital storytelling is the process of capturing personal stories, first by writing, and then by extending that writing with the inclusion of powerful multimedia elements.
Web Page Design (Now based on use of MetaDot) ( Pending Aurora University Approval)

Description : 1 graduate credit In this class you will learn how to effectively create and design web pages, define a color scheme, find and make links to other websites, create calendars, copy pictures into web pages, copy backgrounds, copyright laws and how to publish websites. We will use the district web design program to make our web pages. You will develop a personal web page. This class is designed for staff members with any level of skills. for all levels of computer skills.
Internet III
Description: 1 graduate credit In this course you will learn about U-46's technology curriculum, copyright issues, strategies to search the Internet, how to find quizzes for your curriculum area, how to create your own quizzes along with instant feedback to students, how to find free government publications for your area, how to find content educational games, create letters for your classroom use, have your students create brochures the easy way, create your own hotlist of websites of use one that someone else created, create an online calendar of your homework for parents and students create and use a free online grade book, and how to use U-46's subscription sites. This course is designed with all levels of skill.
Productivity Software (Pending Aurora Approval)
Description: 1 graduate credit You will learn how to apply each of these applications to enhance the presentation of lessons and increase student performance. In this class you will design effective technology-based lessons that use Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel. This class is designed for staff members with any level of skills.
Vocabulary Instruction & Technology
Description: 1 graduate credit Develop and apply the use of technology in the classroom for vocabulary instruction that includes building background knowledge, direct and indirect instruction, and affixes, wording meaning, context clues and assessment. Examine the challenges of vocabulary instruction.
Early Learning Literacy with Technology
Description: 1 graduate credit Develop strategies for use of technology tools in the Pre K- 2 classroom to create authentic learning opportunities for students that support Language Arts Learning Standards and Early Leaning Benchmarks including use of concepts about print, phonemic awareness, reading strategies, vocabulary development and communication through writing.
Engaged Learning with Web Quests
Description: 2 graduate credits This course is for teachers interested in developing a learning activity with infuses engaged learning with technology using the cutting-edge format of the WebQuest. WebQuests foster higher level learning thinking and research skills. WebQuests engages students as they collaborative learning techniques to develop products to solve problems. Participants will develop WebQuests for their students and develop alternative assessment to evaluate the products.
Technology & Literacy
Description: 1 graduate credit This course is for teachers grades PreK-12. It is designed to build a solid and comprehensive foundation of technical and curriculum integration skill for effective use of teaching literacy in PreK-12 curriculum that aligns with the U46 Curriculum Roadmap. Course participants learn how to use the Internet for effective curriculum integration, develop high level thinking skills in their students, and the ten most effective teaching strategies. This course is for all levels of computer skills.
Tech: Improve Student Writing
Description: 1 graduate credit This course is designed for K-12 teachers who are interested in coordinating various aspects of writing in their classroom by utilizing technology as a vehicle of instruction. Through their own reading and discussion, participants will examine the components of an effective writing program combined with effective technology methodology that meets the criteria of Illinois State Standards and the Elgin U-46 Roadmap. They will apply knowledge gained to a year long plan.
Tech: Improve Student Learning
Description: 2 graduate credits Using a computer or the Internet does not by itself insure learning. Participants will obtain a myriad of ideas about how to improve the success of classroom projects and optimize equitable opportunities involving technology. This course considers the factors which affect the success of learning activities involving technology: learning goals; student conceptual readiness; student motivation; student technical skill level; student access to the technology; time available, adapting or transforming the structure of the learning activities using technology; and pertinent research. Participants will develop learning activities which will actually be used with their students.
Design Problem Based Learning
Description: 2 graduate credits Project and Problem Based Leaning can transform learning by allowing students to develop process and technology application skills directed towards the creation of a culminating project. You will study the project based learning process and use a variety of technology resources to produce a project that can be used with your students.
Mathematic Instruction & Technology
Description: 1 graduate credit Develop and apply a deep understanding of mathematical concepts in the classroom, while using technology asboth a resource and a method of instruction. Technology will be used to reinforce foundations of mathematics and develop problem solving skills that will motivate students and lead to natural classroom discussions of real life problem solving.
Technology & Teaching
Description: 2 graduate credits This course is designed to expand on current curriculum and instructional practices to include technology. Participants will discuss and explore how technology can be incorporated and applied to enhance delivery and deepen student understanding of curricular areas.
